Sad News - THEREAFTER indefinitely delayed PDF Print E-mail

SAD NEWS

For the last few weeks, THEREAFTER has been delayed due to a dispute with the publisher, Eternal Press. Unfortunately, during the copyediting and formatting stage, EP inserted numerous typographical, formatting, and grammatical mistakes. Despite knowing these numerous mistakes exist, and repeated attempts by me to work with the publisher to get the mistakes fixed, the publisher has gone ahead and published the book anyway. This action is in direct violation of our contract, and as such, I am now taking legal action for breach of contract and seeking the return of the rights to the story.

While I know many of you are eager to read THEREAFTER, the errors in the published version are significant—letters between characters changed to dialog, 95% of italics (for internal thoughts and emphasis) removed, and glaring grammatical mistakes. While the book will soon be appearing for sale in various retail channels—until I can compel its removal via injunction—I ask that you not purchase it. I know curiosity may be piqued by this announcement—as such, if you really feel compelled to read this version of THEREAFTER knowing that it might negatively affect your enjoyment and overall opinion of the story, then I make this offer: contact me and I will provide you with a free review copy of the publisher's final version and with the final version I submitted to the publisher so that you may judge for yourself with whom the fault rests for the poor quality of the final version of THEREAFTER.

For those of you who have been eagerly awaiting the next chapter in Irene’s journey, I sincerely apologize for this failure to produce a work worthy of your attention. Please know that this version of THEREAFTER does not represent the standards I set for myself or the work that I and the general editor, Alison O'Byrne, put into the book.

The great psychologist Nancy Schlossberg talks about the importance of “non-events” in one’s life – things we expected to happen but didn’t. For me, this situation is a considerable non-event – I expected to celebrate the release of my second novel this month. Instead, I now don’t know when it will be released—and this makes me unbearably sad. I do not know how long the legal process will take – my contract with the publisher is quite clear and I am confident that I will prevail in the end, but it might take days, weeks, months, or even years for the legal squabbling to be over and done with.

In the meantime, I ask for your patience and forbearance.

Top Ten Tuesday is a great meme created by Jamie at The Broke and the Bookish that combines top ten lists and books. She’s come up with a great list of weekly discussion topics and I hope you’ll join in the discussion by commenting on this post or some of the other ones (you can find the list of participating blogs in this week's Top Ten Tuesday post on her site).

So this week’s topic is Top Ten Words/Topics That Make Me Pick Up a Book.

Originally, I thought this was a really hard topic because I didn’t think there were any words or topics that would make me instantly pick up a book and at least look at the back cover blurb. However, a quick perusal of my books and my Goodreads shelves.

THEREAFTER COVER REVEAL SCAVENGER HUNT!

April 15th - 21st

"Irene's back, and the afterlife will never be the same!” Lori Sjoberg, author of Grave Intentions

Annndddd...here it is! Another beautiful cover from the amazing Amanda Kelsey, who also designed the Hereafter cover. I'll give you a moment to soak it in...

Thereafter 300dpi PrintWhen recently-deceased Irene Dunphy decided to “follow the light,” she thought she’d end up in Heaven or Hell and her journey would be over.

Boy, was she wrong.

She soon finds that “the other side” isn’t a final destination but a kind of purgatory where billions of spirits are stuck, with no way to move forward or back. Even worse, deranged phantoms known as “Hungry Ghosts” stalk the dead, intent on destroying them. The only way out is for Irene to forget her life on earth—including the boy who risked everything to help her cross overwhich she’s not about to do.

As Irene desperately searches for an alternative, help unexpectedly comes in the unlikeliest of forms: a twelfth-century Spanish knight and a nineteenth-century American cowboy. Even more surprising, one offers a chance for redemption; the other, love. Unfortunately, she won’t be able to have either if she can’t find a way to escape the hellish limbo where they’re all trapped

Done soaking? No? That's okay - take your time.

I have to tell you, there's so many things I want to say about the cover design and the process we went through this time (for instance, look carefully - that is actually the same cover model that was used on Hereafter; no, really!), but that will all have to wait until a future blog post because I have something EVEN BIGGER and MORE EXCITING to share with you...

I'm celebrating the release of the Thereafter cover with a scavenger hunt! Do you want to get a sneak peek inside Thereafter? Do you want to get a copy of my favorite scene from the book before anyone else has seen it? Do you want to win this amazing set of SIGNED (by me) cover art posters?

I’m thrilled to be participating in the celebrating bloggers blog hop today. Since the release of Hereafter, I’ve had the pleasure to not only learn about this thing called book blogging, but to also meet many wonderful bloggers. I have found bloggers to be wonderfully supportive, and I have been overwhelmed by their generosity and kindness.

Now, one way I had planned to repay the kindness was nominating my favorite blogs for awards during the Book Blogger Twitter Con (yes, they now hold conferences via Twitter and it was AWESOME!) that happened last week.

Exley nefertiticover

Today, I am excited to bring you an interview with steampunk author, A.W. Exley, who is here to talk about her debut novel, "Nefertiti's Heart." I met A.W. through an online writers' community, and when I saw the cover to Nefertiti's Heart, I just knew I had to have her on the BRoP - isn't it gorgeous (yes, I freely admit I am addicted to pretty book covers!). And her author photo is totally epic as well - I love that dress!

Today, I am super thrilled to bring you an interview with fantasy romance author, E.B. Black, who is here to talk about her debut novel, "Medusa's Desire," a retelling of the Greek myth of Medusa (I so love fairy tale and myth retellings!). I met E.B. through an online writers' community that we both belong to, and she was a fantastic early supporter of Hereafter when it first came out. If I'm not mistaken (correct me if I'm wrong E.B.!), she designed her book's cover herself - isn't it gorgeous?!

ThereafterCoverRevealTease
So, I got this package in the mail a couple of weeks ago....

ThereafterCoverRevealTeaser2
I wonder what it could be...

ThereafterCoverRevealTeaser2a
Oh look! It's something shiny...and PRETTY!!!

ThereafterCoverRevealTeaser3
Yes, that is a 20" x 30" poster of the Hereafter cover. And wait, what's that, peeking out a little to the left? Could it be that there's another poster underneath this one...one with...different colors? Whatever could that be? It couldn't be a poster of...the Thereafter cover, could it? And what on earth could these two posters have to do with the Thereafter cover reveal tour happening in a couple of weeks?
