Today I'm thrilled to bring you an interview with author Tracy Jorgensen via BRoP member Emily LaBonte. However, I also know Tracy from AQC Connect and I can safely say that Tracy is one of the friendliest, funniest, nicest people I know. BRoP: Tell us about your new book and when it is out? Where can people purchase it?
Tracy: The Impending Demise of the Girl with Brown Eyes will be out after Christmas. You can get it from Amazon, Itunes, Kobo, and Barnes and Noble. As far as ABOUT the book, well the Boy, who has no title yet and lives in a world without names, is getting attacked by wild animals. From atop those pillars that are supposed to be safe. But no one believes him and he can’t prove it. Fortunately, this Girl with Brown Eyes helps him a few times. Unfortunately, he’s not sure if she’s real either. He did meet her sitting on her own headstone after all.
BRoP: Is there anything new, unusual, or interesting about your book? How is it different from other books on the same subject?
Tracy: My magic system is pretty cool. It’s not entirely new but it is about balance. Say you want to cast a spell, you have to have a sacrifice to do so. So you build up magic power by hurting other people. Definitely you’ll love figuring out the secret of the Brown-Eyed Girl. Right off the bat you meet her and she’s on her own grave? So is she a ghost or something more dangerous?
BRoP: What was the hardest part of writing this book?
Tracy: Rewrites. I needed to make my characters connect with the reader. Hopefully you will all feel like I succeeded.
BRoP: What was your favorite chapter (or part) to write and why?
Tracy: I think torturing my characters with more and more problems was super fun. I also loved writing the Boy’s mother, Madam. She is very concerned with starving children in say Africa (or this world’s equivalent). She sent them a postcard to say so! But they never wrote back.
BRoP: If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in this book?
Tracy: I would only change it so I had it in this beautiful finished state before I started querying agents. Oh to not be so stupid when I started out to think it was ready. Oh well, it worked out great for me.
BRoP: Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?
Tracy: Please don’t look for my message. If you find your own, I would love that. But I didn’t write it with one in mind. I have a few elements that do reflect problems I see in the world, but that’s not for you to learn some message. That’s just me finding a way to deal with crazy things. Like why people might say blow up a building full of people. Or treat human beings like property.
BRoP: Tell us about your book’s cover – where did the design come from and what was the design process like?
Tracy: Well my husband and my editor actually did a lot of the design! They are so talented. Andrew found my girl and my background stock photos and put them together. Then Rebecca did all that gorgeous coloring and text work. We went through a lot of revisions to get it right. Even asked a few reader opinions on Rebecca’s blog. But I love how it turned out in the end. Its a surreal moment when you look at a cover and think, this is for me. This is my novel.

Her bucket list includes writing a novel (check!), shaking hands with a president, going to China (nimen hao!), and rock climbing. She loves to draw, ride dirt bikes, and watch nerdy shows like Dr. Who, Firefly, and Star Trek. Oh, and she writes, too. If you ever meet her, ask her about the time she poked a guy in the butt with a fork or how she once cut her hair off with a knife (on purpose even).
THE IMPENDING DEMISE OF THE GIRL WITH BROWN EYES: Even in a world without names, where neighborhoods are built on giant pillars and magic lurks in dark corners of humanity, usual people meet in typical ways—at work or by hiring a matchmaker. Boys do not meet girls sitting on their own headstones, or while running from giant cougar-like creatures. However, the Girl with Brown Eyes is not a usual girl. And the Boy, still with no title, is about to find that out for himself.The Boy has no idea why mutant beasts keep attacking him. It’s possible he spends too much time strolling through cemeteries. But, maybe these attacks aren’t random at all. Perhaps they are attempted murder, though nobody believes his claims. Yet. That all changes when the Boy plummets off his home pillar while being pursued by a flying monstrosity. The Girl with Brown Eyes is there – if not to save his life, then to at least verify his tale.
Now, unsure if she’s trustworthy or even where she came from, the Boy must make his way back up the pillars and discover who his assailant is . . . lest they learn the dangerous secret of the impending demise of the Girl with Brown Eyes.
