Today, we have an interview with newly minted contemporary fantasy author D.C. Farmer via BRoP member Sandra Ulbrich Almazan. D.C.'s debut novel, The 400lb Gorilla, will be released by Spence City next year and you, dear BRoP readers, are among the first people to hear about this book and see the cover. Enjoy!

This is part three of a five-part interview. Be sure to check out the other BRoP sites for the rest of the interview:
Part 1 @ Emily LaBonte - Friday, June 14
Part 2 @ Sandra Ulbrich Almazon - Monday, June 17
Part 4 @ T.W. Fendley - Thursday, June 20

BRoP: Tell us about your new book and when it is out? Where can people purchase it?
D.C.: The 400Lb Gorilla is an introduction in to the world of the Hipposync Archives. What if there was a transfer between out world and that of the fae. Someone would have to police it--the department of Fimmigration.. So this book deals with one man’s reluctant exposure to that world when he gets embroiled in a plot involving---oh what the hell--here’s the blurb: Matt Danmore thinks he’s lucky. Not many people survive a near death accident with nothing more than a bout of amnesia, a touch of clumsiness and the conviction that the technician that did the MRI had grey skin and hooves.

Still,  it takes time to recover from trauma like that, especially when the girl that was in the accident with you disappears into thin air. Especially when the shrinks keep telling you she’s just a figment of your imagination.

So when she turns up a year later looking ravishing, and wanting to carry on where they left off, Matt’s troubled life starts looking up.  But he hasn’t bargained for the baggage that comes with Silvy, like the fact she isn’t really an English language student, or even a girl.

Underneath her traffic stopping exterior is something else altogether, something that involves raving fanatics bent on human sacrifice, dimensionally challenged baked bean tins, a vulture with a penchant for profanity, and a security agent  for the Dept of Fimmigration (that’s Fae immigration for those of you not in the know) called Kylah with the most amazing gold-flecked eyes…

Out in Feb 2014 with Spence City at all good (and bad) bookstores. It will be out as an ebook and paperback.

BRoP: Is there anything new, unusual, or interesting about your book? How is it different from toher books on the same subject?
D.C.: No vampires. The author, DC Farmer (me) works for Hipposync Enterprises (a front for the dept of Fimmigration) as a scribe. And yes, I need to get out more.

BRoP: What was the hardest part of writing this book?
D.C.: The first three pages.

BRoP: What was your favorite chapter (or part) to write and why?
D.C.: Rimsplitter. A reincarnated vulture who swears a lot, but who is subject to a gagging order.

BRoP: Did you learn anything from writing this book and what was it?
D.C.: It’s okay to have fun while writing stuff. Amazingly, other people find it amusing too.

BRoP: If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in this book?
D.C.: Nope.

BRoP: Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp? Is there a theme?
D.C.: Maybe there is, but that would be telling. And you know what they all say about telling when you should be showing...

BRoP: Tell us about your book’s cover – where did the design come from and what was the design process like?
D.C.: Lisa Amowitz did the cover. the process was open and we bounced ideas back and forth across the Atlantic and eventually it boiled down to this being an archive--a file and that’s what we went with.

BRoP: What format is your book available in (print, e-book, audio book, etc.)?

D.C.: It will be available in paperbook and e-book
