Spooktacular Giveaway Hop

So after you enter my giveaway, be sure to scroll down to the list of participating blogs and visit them all!
Halloween is one of my favorite holidays - especially the movies and television shows, though I have to admit to being a big wuss who gets freaked out by scary movies and hates the gory ones. Bring on The Rocky Horry Picture Show, The Nightmare Before Christmas (which my husband insists is a Christmas movie but we know better, right? ;-) ), It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown, and, of course, all of the halloween episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I love the other elements of Halloween as well - dressing up, carving pumpkins, and giving out candy to trick-or-treaters, though, I must confess, to my great sorrow, that I have never been invited to a Halloween costume party. I may have to make my next book launch party a costume party to make up for this fact!
Since I write a paranormal fantasy series featuring ghosts and the afterlife, I always like to throw out various legends and fun facts around this time of year. For instance, did you know, that while Halloween is usually seen as a ghoulish, satanic, or pagan holiday, it's roots are actually as a Catholic holiday? It's the "hallowed eve" before All Saint's Day, celebrated November 1st, which is a day of rememberance for those who have become saints, which is then followed by All Soul's Day, on November 2nd, which celebrates the faithful dead. All Saint's Day eve, or Halloween/hallowed eve, was (is) believed to be a time when the veil between this world and the next is thin and spirits can return to Earth to visit the living. Many of our traditions honoring the frightful aspects of Halloween - carving jack o'lanters and dressing us as monsters - were practiced as ways to scare off bad spirits that might cross into the land of the living during this time when spirits might roam the Earth.
And now, on to the giveaway!

Thanks for the contest.
That is one of my favorites! How scary can a movie be when it entirely takes place in one room? Turns out - VERY!
Oh, those are a couple of good ones! I haven't thought about 13 Ghosts in ages - I saw it in the theaters. Scared the beejeebers out of me!
That was pretty good!
Judging by the amount of people saying this is their favorite, I definitely need to check this movie out!
I'm only on Season 2 - I can only watch a few eps because it scares me too much! Looking forward to getting to the part where Mark Shepherd joins the cast!
I'm with you - real life is scary enough!
Well, there is certainly plenty of good suggestions here in the comments to choose from!
YES! One of my top favorites, too! I have it on video and watch it every year!
OMG, yes! So good but so scary - gave me nightmares for weeks! We all float down here!
That's an oldie but goodie! I do like this one, too!
Thanks for the chance to win!
I've never been able to watch it all the way through - I've seen the entire thing, but in chunks over many years. Too scary for me to do in one sitting!
So scary! I'm glad I watched it when I was younger but I wouldn't be able to now - I've gotten wimpier over the years!
It's a classic for a reason! So far, no one has mentioned Friday the 13th or the Nightmare on Elm Street films - over the years, they've faded while Halloween has stayed legendary!
You're welcome! Thanks for stopping by!
LOL - too scary for me! I've never been able to watch it, I'm too much of a wimp!
I have this on video and watch it every year!
Thank you!
So many people recommending this movie - I definitely have to see it!
I've never seen that one (or heard of it) - I'll have to add it to my list. I'm getting so many good movie recommendations! I think I'm going to have to have a movie marathon this weekend.
Second scariest movie of all time, second only to Exorcist (in my opinion)! I think it's the second or third Poltergeist and one of the characters says "talking about things make them happen" (meaning don't talk about the ghosts because you'll call them to you). That has always stuck with me and terrified the beejeebers out of me!
Both of those are awesome - I saw The Nightmare Before Christmas in the theaters when it came out and the opening sequence is Ah-Mazing on the big screen!
Paranorman is on my list to see - somehow I haven't seen it yet. I should watch that this weekend!
This is a very popular movie! Lots of people really love it - it must be good!
Thank you!
OMG, that was so scary! That probably wins scariest movie of all time, hands down. ::shudders::
I'm not familiar with Annabelle - I'll have to check it out!
I've never seen Practical Magic - I need to see that because it seems like it would be right up my alley!
Shaun of the Dead was awesome! I'm not into Zombies but I do like the funny zombie ones!
I don't know this one - I'll have to check it out!
I'm with you! The scary ones give me nightmares and I have to sleep with the lights on for weeks afterwards!
I've never managed to watch that one - too scary for me!
I've never watched that one; I can't do movies with evil animals. I watched Cat's Eye which is a series of Stephen King short stories turned into films. That was scary enough for me!
I'm too much of a wuss! I did manage to watch Friday the 13th once when I was a kid. To this day, still watch scary movies through my fingers or with a pillow in front of my face so I can hide when it gets scary!
Oh man, so scary, though! I watched the first one a long time ago and couldn't watch it again because it was so scary!
I loved that movie when it came out (I saw it in the theater)!!! It was the best!
I can only watch this when my husband is around because this show scares me silly!!
I did, however, get to meet and get my picture taken with Mark Shepherd, so there's that!

Oh my gosh , you lucky duck got to meet Crowley, LOVE him! I'm kinda weird because my favorite character is Death, he is just so awesome :)
Yeah, the older I get the less I can take the super scary movies - The Ring and Recycle (Korean Horror film) were the last scary movies I saw and now I tend to avoid them. I really want to see Crimson Peak, but it looks scary so I haven't watched it yet.
Hmm, I've never heard of that one - I'll have to check it out. I'm always on the look out for a good Halloween movie!
My grandmother (of all people) was super into this show. I was familiar with the movie, which was super dumb, so I had never watched the show thinking it was also dumb and my grandmother kept urging me to watch it. I finally gave it to stop her nagging about it and fell in love with the show. Way to go grandma!
