Top Ten Tuesday: Top of the TBR Pile
Top Ten Tuesday is a great meme created by Jamie at The Broke and the Bookish that combines top ten lists and books. She’s come up with a great list of weekly discussion topics and I hope you’ll join in the discussion by commenting on this post or some of the other ones (you can find the list of participating blogs in this week's Top Ten Tuesday post on her site).
This week’s topic is Top Ten Books on My Summer TBR Pile.
This one was a toughie because I’m a “moody” reader. Sometimes I get in a mood to read only certain types of things (or to not read certain things). So, for instance, though I’ve been dying to read Terry Pratchett’s “The Long Earth,” I haven’t yet grabbed a copy because I haven’t been in the mood for serious fiction.
However, having said that, here’s the list of books I really want to read and plan to read in the very near future (mood permitting).
1. Machine by Jennifer Pelland
I thought this book sounded awesome when I heard about it and then I knew it sounded awesome when I heard the author read a short excerpt. I got a signed copy last month, so now it’s at the top of my TBR pile - in fact I just started reading it (on Monday) and so far, I'm enjoying it.
2. Destiny’s Fall by Marie Bilodeau
This is the sequel to a Destiny’s Blood, which I recently finished. I won both of these books ages ago and have no excuse for not reading them sooner. I really liked Destiny’s Blood so I’m looking forward to the sequel.
3. The Long Earth by Terry Pratchett
Terry Pratchett? Yes, please! I’m also excited to read this because of the theme of alternate universes (I’m a new devotee of the show Fringe (better late than never?)) and because I see that there is also a sequel.
4. Quest, Inc. by Justin Cohen
A self-help book masquerading as fiction or is it fiction masquerading as a self-help book? Who knows but the premise of this book piqued my interest and the sample chapter on Amazon drew me in, so I'm eager to check this one out.
5. Jaguar Hope by T.W. Fendley
This is the sequel to Zero Time, which I really liked, so I can’t wait to read this. Plus, I know the author, so I really need to read this already.
6. Anna Dressed in Blood by Kendare Blake
This one has been on my list forever. Absolutely no excuse for not reading this before now.
7. The Pyramid Waltz by Barbara Ann Wright
I know the author and have had this on my TBR list since before it was published. Now there’s a sequel out—I’m falling behind! Man, I’m a bad friend.
8. River by Alma Alexander (editor)
Been dying to read this since I first heard about it—it's an anthology of stories featuring rivers. I love Alma Alexander’s work, so I’m really looking forward to reading this.
9. Kindar’s Cure by Michelle Hauck
And another book by an author I know/am friends with. Heehee…yes, I do in fact love name dropping/pointing out I’m friends with people who have written awesome books.
The story behind how I first heard of this book would take longer to explain than for me to read all 187 books on my TBR list, but the short version is that Michelle and I became part of a peer critique/support group on a writing website that purported to help writers get published. I got to read a very short snippet of Kindar as well as the query and synopsis and thought the book sounded awesome--epic fiction featuring a woman protagonist who also happens to have a disability? Yes, please! I’ve been waiting for it to get published ever since and it should be coming out any day now…
10. The Binding Stone by Lisa Gail Green
I knew I wanted to read this one as soon as I hosted an interview with Lisa on the Blog Ring of Power—yes, I was sucked in by the gorgeous cover, but I also love the story’s premise--a genie's origin story? Can’t wait!
And there you have it! What do you think of my list—any surprises? What about you—what are the books at the top of your summer TBR pile?
Comments
We're only part way into Season 2 of Fringe and loving it. John Noble is such an amazing actor!
Also, is Quest, Inc. by the same Justin Cronin who wrote Passage? Even if not, sounds interesting!
